Experts can better answer this, but I don't think the dash-mounted switches self-cancelled, nor did the semaphores (I think). But for those in this forum ('58-up) I think the answer is yes. |

Mine used to self cancel when new. My 61 hasn't self canceled for near 40 years. the signal would just run on till I manually turned it off. I learned to drive that way, so that out of habit I manually cancel signals even on cars that self cancel.

I often drive for many miles with my turn signal on. |

When I drove a Buick Regal my dad gave me years ago, I worried it was an "old man's car" despite the high horsepower engine it had. It's L.A. and your automotive reputation matters, you know.
On one drive, after sitting with my turn signal on for several minutes as a traffic accident cleared up ahead, a new chime sounded that confounded me for a few moments... until I realized it was an alarm to tell the driver he left the turn signal on.
Worst fears confirmed! |

Did your Buick have curb feelers too? My grand dads old Chysler New Yorker had them. When he got a new car he gave the New Yorker to my uncle, who took its engine out to power his motor home, what a beast!

Ha! Yes, it did. This was actually a (then-) new model, I think a '94, and this was '99 I took possession. It had a 300HP V-6 and really hauled ass. Very much a sleeper. I took no shit from anyone around town (lane merges, onramps, etc).
Another earlier Buick we owned was a '73 Apollo, a re-skinned Chevy Nova, but with a 350cid Buick V-8 in it. What a rocket (for the day, anyway)! I used to beat late '70s 'Vettes at stoplights. Oh, what shame to be beaten by a Buick! Too much power for a teenager to have, though... |
