I found it on the main tube, about in the middle of it between the axle and front. On top of it.

On the main beam, you see a red oxide paint dot. That is the spot where to look. I scraped the paint of and found it.

You see that the original number is 665, the stamps are the ones with the curl in , The other number 1130 is stamped later as the digits are different .

What an honor, one of my vehicles made it into the forum. Very Happy

To your questions, its kind of both. It is an original typ93 trailer chassis, with added tubes for strengthening. The trailer itself is produced in Wolfsburg by Volkswagen in 1945.

Regarding the hitch. Hackjob postwar. It should look like this (also not perfetly original but closer Rolling Eyes :

Were there lever shock absorbers fitted to these originally? There certainly seems to have been provision to have them fitted.

As far as I know, I do not think they were fitted in the past. A few bags with letters is not that much weight to transport.. I am sure it whould have bumped on the broken roads in Germany after the war.. Speed in delivery was not an issue.. delivery itself was Wink

The beautiful VW Museum in Wolfsburg Germany has a Postanhänger Typ 93 on display.
And yes, the lower parts look very familiar, ie 82 or Beetle.
