Do they make a genernator for the Ovals?
This is where they put an alternator inside an original generator housing.
I didn't know if it was possible to put an alternator in a generator so small. |

The new alternators will not fit in the older 36 HP generator stand. If you want a 12 volt generator there is a Porsche one that fits but they are much more expensive. |

The Gener-Nator looks and mounts the same as the original generator because it is the original generator but converted internally to an alternator.
You can ask here :

You need the 90mm small case generator 12v Porsche. it came on 914 models. as previously said, these are extremely expensive. Or, have yours converted to 12 volts. There is an old Bosch technician in Los Angeles where I picked mine up from. He is old school, very knowledgeable. Ill see if I can find his # for you. He made my 12 volt generator for me that fits the 36hp stand. _________________ my first bug 66' build:

This is my 90mm 12v converted generator, I got it off of EBay from BNR parts, I believe they are in Van Nuys.

Is this the same 90mm (small case) measurement for the 36hp generator stand that's integrated into the case? _________________ my first bug 66' build:

Actually I watched an episode of Jay Leno and a guy who had a 1955 bug . Jay said Don Allen could take your generator and install an alternator inside of it. He calls it a gener-nator. I contacted Don Allen and he said the VW generators are too small to install the parts to turn them into an alternator.
He said he can rebuild the generator and convert the original voltage regulator to electronic. It will put out 60 A @ 6 volts.
I don't want to convert to 12 V, I want to keep mine at 6 V.
Has anyone tried an electronic voltage regulator ? |
