|

I'm putting back together a bus that I know nothing about its transmission. I installed the transmission and can't find 3rd & 4th. I removed the gear shift and went underneath and couldn't seem to get it in 3/4 there either. Its built the same day as my other 67' and I could put it in to 3/4 from underneath. All grub screws on the couplers are tight.
I tried to shift it from the nose code with shift rod disconnected to no avail, its __seemed__ like I could only get 1/2 and reverse.
I can remove the tranny if needed, is there a way to check shifting with the tranny out ? And, how can I remove the noise cone and check shifting? |

Gosh I hope that is not the transmission you intend to use in you're bus! It has a lot of corrosion issues. To answer you're question Im pretty sure its the top shifter rod that operates the 3/4 fork. _________________ Vw collection 60 combi ,61 panel ,62 deluxe micro,82 diesel Westfalia,88 Vanagon synchro,98 Jetta tdi,11 Jetta tdi mt ,11 Jetta tdi dsg.

It was . I cant move the top selectir which is consistent with my 3/4 shifting issues. |

I did a search but inconclusive:
selector for 3/4 doesn't move, are there some simple things to do to try and address this? |

Does it jiggle at all in a rotational manner or fore-and-aft or is it rock solid frozen? |

The outside of the transmission is cleaner than the inside... _________________ Joey

yeah, I neglected to take off the nose cone and take a look before cleaning the outside and installing it . It was removed from the bus and left inside the bus, but all the windows of the bus were removed. I still can't figure out how it got so rusty inside.
I'm in process of getting another trans, but in the meantime, I'm still wondering what causes the selector to sieze. |

it's a pretty precise bore. best guess is there is rust on the shaft where it passes into it's bore, or there is so much garbage in the transmission the bore corroded and locked the shaft tight.
either way, no easy solution. in a perfect world you would have a bit of fore/aft play and some rotational movement before it would move the fork. the shaft doesn't rotate, but slides in/out but there is a bit of rotational play for lack of a better term _________________
