I am looking for a shop to do the convertible top in my 1971 ghia. I originally found a shop, but they seem to have only done one vw ghia , and it was a top removal and redue. Mine is a bare frame so i worry there may be a learning curve. But, then again maybe I worry too much.

So, if anyone has a reasonable place to contact in the Mid-Atlantic area.........maryland, virginia, etc. , then please let me know.

Thanks in advance!

I am ordering all of my parts from MTMFG this week!

Chucks convertibles might be a better supplier for cabriolet parts and materials

I will look into them. I decided to put the order in for all my hardware, and wood bows this week, and see what the shop who does the top wants me to order.

I wish chuck still did tops

Rudy's upholstery in my hometown of Martinsville VA has done many VWS over the years including my 71 Ghia in 1992. Eddie does great work.

I did my own top replacement this time with the help of the samba and YouTube.

I know its a bit of a drive from where you are at:

Roy's Upholstery in Berryville, VA do nice work at reasonable prices.

There is also Skyline in Madison, VA

However for my last Ghia I did the top myself using a kit from Chuck's. I used the videos and other information from this site. It was a good experience and came out great.

Malley,

You were very happy with the shop that did your first top? I will give them a call. I appreciate it.

Hey Cliff,

Yeah I was happy with his work. If I wouldn't have done my own top he would have got my business. He is known as "the" convertible top guy in the area. I don't get by there all that much but I have seen several VWs in his bay including a late model Ghia several months back.

I do know he likes to use his own suppliers for his tops.. But you could talk to him about it.

Thanks! Mark

I do believe that MTMFG is the original manufacturer of the wood bows for VW convertible tops, and supplies other businesses which use and sell them.

Hi Cliff, Roys Upholstery is much closer to you in Berryville VA, just outside Leesburg.

I also know for a fact that Northside/Skyline does great work as they did the majority of the restoration on my current 71 Ghia project. Grant and his team are very experienced and have been working on VW's for a long time. A little more of a drive to Madison, but not as far as Martinsville, though it sounds like the place there does great work as well.
Can't wait to see what you have done!
Jeff

Thanks for all of the info, guys. VEry appreciated! I ended up talking with Rudy and Skyline, and am dropping the car off at Skyline in a couple months. I met the owner and he gave a me great vibe, and made me feel good about dropping it off to his shop. thank you again for the great referral!
