Hey guys, I'm the proud new owner of a '71 KG coupe. I had been looking for a mid 60's beetle to use as a daily driver when my wife fell in love with this '71 Ghia and greenlighted the purchase!

The car has been restored, not show quality by any means, but clean, rust free and very strong mechanically. My intention is to drive it daily, treat it right and enjoy the heck out of it. I'm sure I'll be posting a bunch of newbie questions in the near future.

Congratulations, and welcome! That's a nice looking car, and I think your plan to drive and enjoy it is great. You'll find plenty of great advice here. I know I have, regarding my '71 cabriolet. One of the first things you'll hear is to consider relocating that fuel filter to get it out of the engine bay to minimize fire risk.

Enjoy!

Congrats on overcoming the first - and probably most difficult - hurdle to hobby car ownership! Smile

That's a great looking Karmann Ghia you found there, and I hope you enjoy the heck out of driving whenever and wherever possible.
Welcome to the very exlusive ( Wink ) club.

Congratulations and welcome to the club. You'll find out pretty soon just how coveted a Ghia is, in the number of people who'll stop you to tell you what a great car you have. Smile

Amen to that. I live in a small town of a 7000 and I have the only Ghia running here! The only other one I know of is a rust bucket - not running - and probably never will again since its too far gone to rescue. I get a thumbs up every time I pass through town in the Ghia. Most people don't know what a Ghia is but seem to like it all the same. They are special!

I was redoing a 72 super beetle when I spotted this Ghia on craigs list. I went to check it out and fell in love. No rust anywhere but under the battery and thats been fixed - and the battery moved to under the back 'seat'. An Optima red top battery which won't outgas and cause corrosion. I was able to sell the super within a few weeks.

Nice looking car!

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome!

I plan to move the fuel filter ASAP. Just need to buy some braided fuel line...any recommendations on where/how to relocate?

I'm loving driving the car (other than the 100 degree TX heat). You are all spot on, people are waving, stopping me to swap stories, etc.

Happy to be a Ghia driver!

My filter is located right next to where the gas line comes out of the tunnel. I doubt you need braided line - get some good quality fuel rated line from NAPA. Some of the lines the local cheap auto parts stores sell look more like vacuum line - avoid the cheap stuff when it comes to gas line.

Welcome! I'm assuming that color is Zambesi (sp.?) Green...am I right? My first Ghia was a 73 coupe in that color. Welcome and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy. You have a beautiful Ghia and it's great to see that it will be your daily driver!!

As others have said, GREAT looking Ghia. Welcome to the club. Mine's a '73 vert and I wish I lived in an area where I could make it my daily driver. In fact, I've started looking for a car just like what you just purchased for that reason. Really a strong looking example.
