Hey guys

I need your help regarding my bug restoration. I own a 63 bug for the last year or so, but I have not done any work on it since I was focusing on my old mini. I finally decided to send the car to the body shop, so the restoration can start. On the bright side, the original engine works like a watch, so I wont be touching it for the moment.

However I believe that the car was not originally white, but more of Gulf Blue with Grey Vinyl interior. This can be seen in some places on the inside of the car.

My question is: do you think that it is indeed a Gulf Blue or could it be the turqoise?

Thanks
Very Happy

Gulf Blue is a possibility, I'd say it definitely was not turquoise though. The glove box door looks to be closest to Glacier Blue, but that colour was no longer offered when the 1963 models came around... it's probably a replacement from a different car. You might try looking down in the trunk pocket areas where the defrost tubes connect to the heater channels and behind the interior door and rear quarter panels to see if you can find any more original paint.

Could be L398 Pacific Blue.

It looks lighter than Gulf Blue, but hard to tell from a picture of 55 year old paint viewed on a phone. Lots of room for variation from how it looks in person.

Pacific Blue was a Convertible-only color. I vote Gulf- I am on my second.

I say put some new running boards on it & enjoy it as it is.

Not to knit pick, but it has a later year passenger side front turn signal housing and later year tail light housings and lenses. If you're thinking about painting it, I'd swap those out for 63 correct parts first.

But I like the idea of getting new running boards and rolling it like it is. The body and paint don't look bad. Good driver quality that shows well. A few little details here and there and enjoy the heck out of it.

It does not look like turquoise to me at all.

On my '63 I just finished replacing the '64 front turn signals with proper peanut '63 ones -- but having one of each, like on the pictured car, would drive me crazy! Shocked

Hey Guys

Just a quick update. The restoration has progressed slowly but finally all the body work has been finished and it will be painted soon at the original L390 Gulf Blue color.

On another note, do we have any pictures showing what the interior M079 Leatherette Silver Beige would look like?

Thanks

H

And finally it is sort of ready. Just small things to be adjusted.

It may have taken two year since I purchased the car, but at least now I will enjoy it Laughing

Love the color, and great clean resto.

I hate to say this, but it doesn't look like it was just the front directional, itself, but appears to be whole fender, as the location of the directional, and headlight height, are different, or at least look that way in both the before and after photos.

I couldn't find the exact right place to post this...but...I'm looking for the 3 rubber inserts that go on the face of the glove box door in order to mount the chrome trim...on the front of the door.

Any idea at all where to find these pieces?

TIA

Pretty sure West Coast Metric sells those, plus every other rubber bit for the Beetle.
