Lol...free storage. And you expect them to be there in 6 months?

I would pony up for a locked storage place...around here its 100/mo....that would be your safest bet

Is free car storage common in France? It certainly isn't in California.

It doesn’t hurt to ask does it ? I’ve stored cars for people because I live in a semi rural setting without restrictions or shitty homeowners association busy bodies telling us how to live. Back in the 60s my grandma let her neighbor store his car inside her garage, they were snowbirds in Florida every year. Not everyone is tight ass or wise ass. I think it’s possible to find a widow living on fixed income that would garage a car for a little extra money.

Is this inside?
Outside public storage: Parts would get stripped in CA

Are they nice cars? Maybe you can park them in a dealer showroom. Smile

How sad and I’m always hearing what a nice place California is. Around here people store cars, boats,RVs,trailer etc outside storage but in a locked yard. Might fare better if they had a car cover on them, the kind that locks.

Try contacting car clubs listed here on the Samba... someone might have garage or yard space. Not everyone lives where the vultures pick so readily.

thanks for all the answers.

I wanted to keep it secret but I realize I have to tell you more about my inquiry.

In fact, we are several europeans guys who have sent their own cars for attending vw shows in June.
One of us will be back in July to spend his holidays with his family (he has a 65 vw camper) in California for camping.

we would like also to go to the sema show in November and send back the cars to europe after.

We don't ask charity but we think it could be possible to find a shop or company which would be interested in keeping ours cars to promote his shop or someone else who have enough space to keep them safe.

there will a 54 standard beetle, a 65 westfalia camper and a 62 sunroof notchback, all in show cars conditions

thanks for your help!

Several of the dealerships are using classic VWs as centerpieces in their showrooms, perhaps you might try contacting ones that would be near where you will be to see if they might be interested in such a promotion.

The Imperial Hotel on the strip in Vegas used to have a rotating car collection, people would leave the cars in the museum on public display. Don’t know all the particulars but they had a lot of cars to look at when I was there 20 years ago.

This sounds like quite a coordination effort, and so might seem a remote possibility, but I'd still check it out.

I say this because you may or may not be aware of the current advertising fixation with old VWs in the USA. TV and print ads are featuring them like never before. Such an idea might have more traction than you predict.

Where are these cars now? Are they registered in the USA?

Issues like insurance coverage make it complex for you and the dealer, and with 6 months registration issues might cause him some grief should a motor vehicle department inspector come by. You might want to temporarily register then as "non-operation" to avoid those issues. A local Samba member to check in on the occasionally would be a good idea, too.

Go in with your eyes open and be flexible, and this might turn out to be a real win-win for both of you.

where will you be shipping them into US?

I'm not far from port of baltimore.

are the brought in on east coast and the trucked across america?

If so, I can store them indoors in the interim ( at your risk of course )....just leave the keys and rights to drive them on occasion. Laughing

inside. basically one of those tin can storage facilities that seem to pop up to help people store what they "need" Laughing

tight ass? wise ass? ok, sure...I fit that description. but years of experience have made me this way.

what does everyone's insurance say? to the guy asking for free storage on show cars....you get what you pay for....if it's sitting in some guys yard and granny wads it up backing her Imperial out, who's on the hook?

your insurance may REQUIRE locked indoor storage....I don't know. it may be worth a shot to see if a big name parts vendor/shop (with good feedback) would "sponsor" you....perhaps a call to Wolfsburg West? not sure.

I wouldn't let anything I own sit with someone I didn't know....especially after pouring gobs of time and money into it
