A custom grind of the CB 2239 camshaft. 234 @ 0,050" 0,470/0,417" lift. Installed on 106 ILC.
CB lightweight lifters.
ACN aluminum pushrods.
AA 90,5 mm cylinders and pistons. Grant rings.
CB bolted rocker shafts. Mercedes elephant feet adjusters.
043 Mexico cylinderheads. 37,5 x 32 mm valves. ported. SS valves, custom seat job. CB sgl. springs, cromemoly retainers. 9-1 CR.
CB/Empi center section. 34 mm Solex carburettor with 29 mm venturi, rejetted. Slingshot endcastings. Stock late bay air cleaner w. K&N filter.
Bosch 021 109 205S distributor modified for type 1, recurved, Ignitor module, Pertronix 3 ohm coil. PCD upgrade on wires.
Stock heaterboxes. BAS Customsport muffler.
Stock doghouse fan housing with flaps and venturi ring.

Runs perfect idle at 875 rpm. Pulls almost like a diesel from just over idle. we had to swop the thermostat to the small 7 row external cooler to a 87 C. one, because the engine just wouldnt get warm enough except on really hot days.

Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

For some reason the picture is small, so here goes:
104 hp @ 4860 rpm
161 Nm peak @ 3680 rpm
More than 150 Nm asvailable from 2600 to 4600 rpm.

2276. It was an upgrade of my previous post a couple years ago (green engine).

Upgrades:

Lighter valvetrain and less spring pressure - CB 650 outers, titanium retainers

38mm venturies from CB

Corrected port issues in the intakes

A1 1 5/8" sidewinder

196 on the second pull with the belt on and something over 210 with the belt off at ~6000 or so rpm. Here's pics: the 186HP was a pull on the engine before we arrived to the shop.

The use of single ports, was that an imposed constraint, or was it to acheive the performance you wanted?

Say, if you had twin port heads and a pair of CB34s at your disposal (for example Wink ), would you do the bottom end the same? Or would you up the cam a tad, say to the CB 2239? How much wil it hurt power to have a counterweighted crank? Could I offset that with a lightened flywheel?

-just askin'. Very Happy

Smaller main and main air and you can most likely get rid of that nasty AFR dip and get a cleaner torque curve especially.
Otherwise, nice power.

Otherwise, nice power.

Thanks, i'll keep it in mind for the next session.
Thinking of getting a different ignition than my 123.

Thanks for showing the path to make such a graph.
My combos are getting the best of me
I try on my own, for reasons unknown,
when I should just follow a recipe...

Thanks.
That was also how i started, confused by all the choices. But after reading and asking a lot here on the forum i came to this setup.
But it also comes down alot to what YOU want from your engine..

'62 Ragtop Baja, rebuilt the engine last summer, being a newbie and my first VW engine build, fortunately I had help from an experienced friend.
I used the parts list from Aircool.net and built a 1800 on a stock AS41 case. I used a Scat 74mm crank, 12 pound flywheel; Engle 110 cam; AA slip-in 88mm pistons and cylinders, 92mm MOFOCO heads with 39mm intakes and 32 exhaust valves, Scat solid rocker shafts, CB maxi pump II filter system; 1.5" headers, 40 HPMX dual carbs.
