Partial? haha, feels like a full restoration to me. Cant wait to see the paint on it.

The plan was partial but I got a little carried away. Smile My downfall was buying a sand blaster...

Very long day of sanding

Roof almost done, nose done, dash done, Interior done except cargo floor, top half of the body done. Finally feeling like there may be an end to this sanding Smile I am very happy with how it coming out though

Yup, sanding sucks. I wish I had done mine even better though. It makes all the difference for the paint job and how well it sticks, and looks.

The first few block sands on the roof and sides were 100 grit. Now using 150 all over. Once everything is perfect it will get one more thin coat of primer and wet sand with 400 before paint. 400 is good for single stage pant.

Almost... Another full day of sanding

Just need to sand to roof one more time. I need to pickup some seam sealer tomorrow for the driprail and cargo floor. Going to paint the cargo floor first and cover it when I paint the interior.

Looking good!

Instead of seam sealer in the gutter I would use this:

https://www.amazon.com/SELF-LEVELING-SEALER-10-1-OZ-FUS-122EZ/dp/B002CMR930

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=458796&highlight=rain+gutter

Seam sealer on the driprail. Couple squiggly bits but looks about the same as the old stuff I removed. Unfortunately I didn't pickup enough seam sealer to finish the cargo floor.

All ready for paint. I will paint the cargo floor tomorrow. Going to be easier to paint the interior without doing the floor at the same time.

Masking around the fuel filler and vent was fun. Taped off the lower vents and then from the vent to floor. Stuffed a sheet up around the fuel filler. Wanted paint behind vents without overspray in the engine compartment.

Cargo floor painted.

Went over voids with internal coating. Wiped up the run off and splatter. What's left is very thin so will sand off. Does a nice job of running out all the seams. Should prevent the dust from blowing out when I paint.

Thanks... but it really shows how crappy the floor panels are. Finding something to cover that up will be a priority once the paint is on. Haha

I ordered the Eastwood stuff from their site. Shipping is high and delivery can take awhile but I could not find anything local.

The floor that I put in my '74 bus 15 years ago looks a lot like yours... weak pressings and kinda wavy. Choices were very limited back then.

Happy birthday to bus. He is 54 today. Smile

Paint on the roof and I couldn't be happier with it. Smile I guess the last two weeks of sanding paid off. Smile

I had been concidering having a professional apply the paint but glad I tried it myself. We have a downdraft paint booth but it hasn't been used in 15 years, the fans won't start and the lights are 3/4 burned out. Not tall enough to paint the roof in there anyway. Now that the roof came out great I will go ahead with the rest.

Paint on the inside. Smile

Love it. Glad I picked up a paint suite. Wish I remembered gloves though. Haha. Lots of paint in the air inside.

Pushed the hinges in the closed position for the first coat and opened them for the second. Used a rod with a hook to slowly open them.
