recently bought anti rattle grommets for my 63 coupe. the grommets fit so loose in the door holes they almost fall out. they are kgpr grommets. anyone have a similar problem? i don't think the holes have been made bigger. stumped!

wish I could be of help...but have the same problem. I used weatherstrip snot to "glue" them in. I know thats not how it is intended to be. will be sitting on the sidelines waiting for a better way. |

I had the exact same problem with my '63. I also used the weatherstripping glue to put mine in and it seemed to do the trick.
It seems like they're just made a little bit too small? _________________ Ben

I'm not sure if the hole size is the same on the later models but I've tried the WCM and KGPR ones and found the KGPR to be larger and to fit better.
Not sure if there is a third option but I don't recommend the WCM ones -- they fall out quickly. |

I also only found the 4 holes opposite the felt strip. Bentley says there should be 7. Mine are 1968 doors. |

Hmmmm... does this help at all? We did have a weird batch of them 3 or 4 years ago (the video was made when we got them replaced).

the video would be helpful if the grommets were very retentive and difficult to get thru the holes. the grommets i have i can place into the hole with my fingers. any pressure on them and they fall out. the holes are too big or the grommets are too small? |

That's odd. I used the same KGPR grommets on my '66 doors and they were tight to fit just like on the video. However, there were one or two that would get sliced off at the root by the glass or maybe the lift channel when the window was wound up. I've replaced those and it happened again. This is possibly an alignment problem with the glass. I still haven't worked out the the cause of that problem but am open to ideas.
As for the KGPR videos, a variety of doors are demonstrated and all seem to be a tight fit. How odd that yours are loose and need glue to support them

maybe i got some of the weird batch grommets mentioned by kgpr. kgpr is sending me more grommets and hopefully they will fit. they have been very helpful and are a great company. i have a hard time thinking the hole size in the doors varies in diameter. just another little obstacle to overcome in dealing with a 50yr old car. i been thru this with my 61 ragtop. it sometimes takes a little engineering to overcome some problems like this. |

found a solution for my anti rattle grommets. i used glove box stops which fit the grommet holes perfectly. i shortened then to the same height of the OG grommets. seems to work.

This solution works only on certain years doors! May be '70-'71! I've used them once.
My solution works on early '60-'70 doors
For the last 3 years I've installed a lot of these anti-rattle grommets and every time they are smaller that the hole in the door This repro part sucks!!! No KG logo on them! With some creativity I've made them fit every time
First you get a anti-rattle grommet for door glass and anti-rattle grommet for interior panels.
Put panel grommet in the hole:
Put some grease on the tip of the glass grommet and slip in place with help of a large screwdriver:
Work done!
Grommet stays in place secured and work as intended! _________________ The glory never gets old, just need new paint.

I don't know who makes the ones without the KG logo.
The first time I posted the video above, in an older thread, the gentleman that was having trouble realized he had been trying to insert the grommets into the wrong holes... |

I recently installed new anti-rattle grommets in my doors from KGP&R. No problems with fit and the hook method worked well. _________________ Ghia Owner Emeritus |

I never installed KGP&R grommets, but I'm sure they fit like a glove . It's their own reproduction and i bet they insist on quality. Here in Europe the only KGP&R repro parts are only one or two rubber parts, the rest are "german". I have to work with them and results are not always "inspiring". For the last few months Hoffmann Speedster increased rapidly their inventory of Ghias rubber seals and most of them are not so cheap parts that don't fit Above grommets are from them. CSP sells the same grommets. Name the part - don't fit! _________________ The glory never gets old, just need new paint.

I just tried this solution for anti rattle grommets that were too small to stay securely in the holes in the doors. Works perfectly! Thank you! _________________ “Tinker Toy” 1967 Savannah Beige Beetle Sedan...........Mostly Original Survivor

anyone ever tried to fit these with glass, and door trim all in place?
It seems there is not enough room to put these grommets in place.
Should I at least remove the felt strip?

Not possible! Remove the glass first. _________________ The glory never gets old, just need new paint.
