In regards to altering your Manx or replica hood to have hinges and open:
I know there are people that have done this and threads related to it but for those of you that have done it have you liked it or regretted it?
How did you do it and what materials and methods did you use?
What would you do different to improve?
Thanks!! |

The Manx club used to sell an opening hood kit, hinged at the rear and with the headlights moved onto the hood so that they wouldn't hinder opening. They were molded by a friend of Bruce's apparently and were really strong, braced underneath for light and hinge mounts. I wonder if the molds are still out there?

Its a nice concept, but in the 17 years or so since complete chassis up restoration I have never had need to have hinged hood.... What are you looking for with having a hinged hood...

David,
I heard before that Mel in your part of the world had the mold for making an opening front hood (bonnet). Is that true? _________________ Joseph

Yes and access to the wiring, gauge sender as mentioned, there is space that could be used for soft luggage too, or a small tackle box an one side and a tool box on the other and so on...
That is not a package shelf by the way! That is for pretty girls!
I wouldn't make them sit on a hard old bumpy box like that?

No thanks. It is not very stealthy and it practically begs someone to try to break into it. _________________ Brian

The molds have changed hands a couple of times but they still exist, just! |
