Recently bought a 31 pict 3 carb and replaced my oem, however, it fails to idle when the car is hot, when cold it idles just fine. It also drives ok with a few flat spots, can anyone shed some light, I have tried adjusting air fuel mixture and also idle speed but it jus does not want to idle.[/img] _________________ 1969 VW Thing

Do you have an idle cut off solenoid? Does it work? You should hear it click when you turn the key and if you remove it, hook the wire back up, and ground the body you should be able to watch the plunger move. |

If the solenoid is installed, it either needs to be connected or you need to cut the plugger off. |

Well if it idles fine cold then the idle cut off valve has been jacked by someone. That is pretty common to find. Not sure how to do it though? I think it's a matter of breaking off the nose of the thing and screwing it back in. But If the Idle cutoff valve looks ok then clean it up and see if it will click to 12 volts being applied. Also if they come loose they can do that.
But not sure what your engine is and where it should time and what distributor you have? In the states we have sense 1971 Had Dual Port Head engines that run the PICT 34/3 and a weird dual vacuum retard and advance distributor and that engine get's static timed 5' retarded. All Solex carbs get old and the throttle shaft gets an air leak around it and they won't idle set up with the stock distributor so people put the single vac/mech advance distributor on them and time them at 7 1/2 adv. degrees static where they idle fine but are over-advanced when trying to start hot. _________________ 1960 Beetle And 1679cc DP W-100 & Dual Zeniths! |
