My ‘56 A just had its carbs (zeniths) rebuilt. Ran good and revved fine in the shop. I took it around the block and above about 2000 rpm under load, it started to pop and backfire. Mechanic recommended I change the coil and condenser. I replaced both and then it wouldn’t start. I’ve heard new replacement parts are suspect - Turkish Bosch, etc.
So I put the old coil on and no spark. Old condenser back on- no spark.
What Have I Done?
Thanks for any advice

Check your engine ground.

The coil HT lead to the central connection in the distributor cap does still have the spring loaded carbon pick up still place to touch the brass contact on the rotor arm?

The connections are correct to the book on the contact breaker points (insulation) and the condenser? The points themselves are correct and not burnt and have the correct gap?

Before you start replacing parts check for fuel and spark. You can run through this checklist for troubleshooting. It's for VW but same basic stuff for a 356.
