While waiting for the body I have lots to work on. I have figured out that since I opted to go full flow I can't mount the rear "skid plate". It won't clear the port on the oil pump.

Also does anyone know where this piece of tin goes?
Cant find it in the parts manual. _________________ 1973 Super Beetle - sold

Air deflector plate rear right. Page 12 item 8A. Not shown on the page, same as item 8 but is on the right hand side. |

I have my clutch tube bracket installed but I have this other bracket that looks the same but different. Any clues?

THE BODY IS BACK FROM PAINT!
I went with an after market orange with a green and gold metallic flake. It looks quite different from different angles around the car. I tried to get some pics that show what I'm talking about.
I'm was debating on whether or not to mount the cut off wader boxes but I think they turned out so nice I'm going to do it.
You can't really tell from the pic but the body man welded a small round rod to the inside of the intake of the boxes to give it more finished look. The ones I had looked at before just used pieces of the door top beading to go around the opening. _________________ 1973 Super Beetle - sold

The pan is complete and ready for the body.
I had the rear arms lengthened which came with a few challenges. The e-brake cables were a little short so we fabed up some extensions using copper tubing. Should work fine. Also had to drill a hole in the upper gusset, just behind the bump stop, and attach the cable there. _________________ 1973 Super Beetle - sold

OK. So skip ahead a little bit now. Put the body on the pan. I used a body to pan gasket, stuck it down with weatherstrip adhesive. Went on nice and smooth except for no pulling the plug wires. Broke off one of the ends of the wire. Live and learn. The engine bay rubber was a bit of a chore figured out on the bottom gasket to put one edge in all the way then go back and work the other edge in. The top gasket just required a little spray lube and slipped right in.
Mounted the steering column, shifter, nice Vintage Speed unit, wood fat grip steering wheel and new high backs from The Thing Shop.
Then on to the wiring. I won't bore you with the three days of head scratching, cursing and bloody knuckles. What I will say is to take the pdf of the wiring diaragm down to your local Staples or whatever and have them blow it up to at least 18x24 then tape it to the windshield while doing your wiring.
Also new license plate.
Need to mount the doors and front fenders then tackle the heater, but I have taken it for a small drive down the road. Lots of fun just to be able to do that.

Love the color!
That wiring diagram was a life saver when I was doing mine. Not only did I blow it up, I had it laminated and have it hanging on the wall in the garage!

I have a question? Does anyone know what these wires are for? They are in the head light harness but I dont see them on the wiring diagram.

If I remember correctly, there should be 6 wires in that harness. 3 are for the headlight, 3 are for the turn signal. |

I have the headlights and turn signals all hooked up and working but these 4 wires remain. I just do not see this color combo anywhere on the wiring diagram. _________________ 1973 Super Beetle - sold

That is if you want to wire in a set of driving lights or fog lights. It was just added in case you want to install them I would guess. Saves time and is a lot cleaner.

Is the wire harness original or aftermarket? The blk/yellow could be for the horn or something to do with the headlights. The brown is a ground and I can't make out the other color. |

The one wire is green and comes out in the trunk on the passenger side. The other 3 are black w/ yellow stripe, light blue, brown. I do not have my horn hooked up so i see that the black/yellow and brown go there. So that just leaves a single blue on the left and the single green on the right. _________________ 1973 Super Beetle - sold

Update time. These are the latest pictures. Runs and drives, just some odds and ends to sort out. Very pleased with my results so far.
