I searched the forums, but I'm really look where can I purchase some items.

I wanted german rear brake line hoses and I've only found china & brazilian. Anyone know who sells them? Would be for a 1960.

Also called around local auto stores for tranny fluid and no one sells 80/90 GL-4 so thoughts on where I can purchase not on the internet? I tried Auto Zone, OReiilys, Advanced, and Napa.

Is it best to replace the original tar boards on the chassis or go with something else?? I just repainted mine, and will be reassembling soon.

Last question is I have the bug me video for wiring, but while mine is a 1960, it has a custom 1950's ford truck bed and the harness is through the back wedged in between (photos below). I need to take it out to blast the body so I can start the primer and paint process.

How should I go about this? First thought is to label all the wires on a piece of tape and then yank them all out? The current wiring isn't correct with a nuch of additional wires up front and the harness runs outside of the heater channel so I would use a fish to go through the heater channel and properly wire to the front. Any suggestion or thoughts on this is greatly appreciated.

Apologies for all the question, but didn't want to flood the forums with separate threads and I'd ask on my build but it's in the volksrod forum where no one looks.

Thanks in advance.

Mas

Wolfsburg West has the brake hoses.

My local Auto Zone has gear oil in stock (I just checked it on the web site to make sure). I have also bought gear oil from Advance Auto, stocked with all the other oil.

I like tar boards.

For the wiring, since you have a modified vehicle you will have to figure out what works for you.

And since you are redoing a custom vehicle instead of building it from scratch, you have a unique opportunity to evaluate what worked and what didn't and make appropriate changes.

I get my hoses at my local Carquest store anymore. Same with drums, shoes and wheel cylinders.

You want hypoid gear oil - I think its 80-90W. Same deal, I get Carquest synthetic. If Carquest has it, so sound Advanced. They are the same company.

I replace floor tarboards with 2 layers of Peal and Seal (available at Lowes). Seals and protects the floors better IMHO and I cant tell any different in sound deadening.

Wiring - there are diagrams on here in the sticky section. Try to figure out if you have the bulk of the stock harness or not and if so, you probably have wires tha thave ben extended, so colors may not be correct at the ends. Try to find splices and see what the color should be and make a table (for example, brake light Red/Black, now yellow..)

WW lists German and Brazilian hoses.

GL-5 is perfectly fine to use. Plenty of threads on the topic.

NAPA carries Sta-Lube. 85W-90 GL-4 gear lube. I used it in my '60.

Comes a time when you quit trying to bring people into the 21st century. Whale oil was a great lube too but it’s been superseded 😀

I think you'll need another quart. Not sure about a '60, but capacity on my '65 was 2.5 litres.

When I worked at NASA we had a bottle of whale oil, to be used on percision gauge movements. We also had a big bottle of mercury for our manometers. The safety people took the mercury bottle away, along with our aerosol paint cans.

Use Wolfsburg West for OG brake hoses.
Don’t repaint your tar boards—-gets hot and you don’t want a fire!!
I bought amsoil tranny fluid from a distributor.

And not sure if you’ve tried “bacon lube” but it’s the shi!
Check it out!!!!!

I taught chemistry for 30+ years and had a great mercury barometer. It was to military specs and the mercury was sealed under the diaphragm. But the state decided there must be no mercury in the classroom, so the barometer had to go. No only did the school loose a good instrument, but had to pay to have it disposed in the proper way.
