The Uk & USA have lots of differences & I am not sure why some people get arsey when someone else dosen't know everything about stuff in the USA. While its a nice country that I would have no problem in living in. Not everyone lives there. Very Happy Green Bus

Yes it is a Motometer 3 in 1 guage, NOT this specific one, it's from the gallery, but the same guage.
Now where did that VDO light come from?

I have never seen the likes of that Motometer 3 in 1 gauge before, especially considering that it's only of 60 mm (i.e. 2-3/8 inches) diameter! Interesting to note that the text labels are in German, or at least the one for oil temperature, is certainly in German

The only Motometer gauges I have seen, have been in one or two mail-order catalogues (one of them from Sweden) and they were all single-function gauges.

have you ever looked in the gallery, searching "motometer'? these 3 in 1 gauges are not uncommon at all.

Having never previously associated Motometer gauges, as being accessories for either the air-cooled or water-cooled, Volkswagen & Audi cars, I have never had any reason to search The Samba Gallery, for Motometer gauges of any description.

As previously stated, Motometer gauges of any description, are uncommon in Great Britain and to the best of my knowledge, have never been marketed here, with reference to Volkswagen vehicles. However, VDO gauges are well known here, in this context.

I note that the following advertisement, about Motometer 3 in 1 gauges, is derived from a North American motoring magazine or mail-order catalogue, which would not have been circulated here.

I've been involved with 1968~79 VW Type 2s and to a lesser extent, other air-cooled VWs, since 1975 and I have never come across the like of this either:

It's a pity the ammeter is only rated at –30~0~30 A, which is for dynamos and one of the other instrument functions, is an oil temperature indicator (cold, normal & hot segments) rather than a calibrated oil-temperature gauge.

In the absence of sufficient dashboard space for separate gauges, it would serve some purpose, but it might be difficult to source compatible, matching transducers, appropriate to a 1968~79 VW Type 2.

Thank you for this write up! Been wanting to install the fog lights I have, but the switch is a cheap rocker, and no indicator light is included.

Shown on page 22, of the 1992 VDO Automotive & Industrial Product Catalogue, is a VDO "Modular Cockpit", 8-position, rectangular warning-light module, with what appears to be a choice of 20 or more, different, coloured (red, orange, yellow, green & blue) warning-light lenses, with or without symbols.

Are these still available? I found the Europaspares lights with the symbols, but not modular, and not switches. Checked VDO, and they only have a few colors in small round lights.

I agree with your comments about alcohol: seen drunk people, and it is not a pretty sight!

Good thread, with a range of topics, from society to taxes.

Thank you in advance! Very Happy

Here's an interesting looking, circular warning-light cluster, with 6 warning lights, as used on several models of Zetor agricultural tractor, manufactured in the Czech Republic. I have yet to find out its diameter or whether it can be readily dismantled and customised, like the Lucas made Triumph warning-light clusters, but it might be worth investigating further.
