Just picked this up Saturday. Runs pretty good once it warms up. Bought it from a lady who's husband passed away (it was his) and then several years later her new husband to be passed away. She was pretty sad to see it go, but is glad to know it was going to someone who would appreciate it.

You stole that!
Looks like it's pretty much a buy and drive but there will be always something to tinker with/change. Their whole purpose of existence is to keep you busy and broke! |

I haven't had time to tinker with the charging system, but it seems like it might not be charging. I've never seen a capacitor like this on an alternator. any ideas what this is supposed to do?

There! I told you it would get you tinkering - my guess is it is for RF noise suppression. Without it you may get a whine on your radio.
I see the electric heating element is missing from your choke. That explains the "once it's warmed up" comment! |

There is no radio....at least since I bought it. Also, no ammeter. Might be the reason it isn't / or might not be charging.
yes, it needs some tinkering.....I've yet to see one that didn't. At least in my world _________________ Mike

Nice color, Mike. ...'don't remember seeing that recently?
Given the car's history... you might call your primary and ask for a workup. Cheers.

I don't have a primary. I found a guy that is supposed to be good at them, but he has had the engine from my bug for a year to rebuild. I'm not holding my breath as he does air cooled on the side. He grew working on them. Not a lot to choose from in North East Iowa. _________________ Mike
