Iam restoring a 52 11g presently and have discovered that unless I remove the entire ash tray assembly from dash, my Elomar radio will not fit.
Anybody hear or know of this ?

| The Elomar is a very early radio, it was introduced in 1949 and was designed to fit a Standard beetle without an ashtray. Later radios for a Split are designed to accommodate the ashtray and won't have this problem.So you either have to lose the ashtray or cut a chunk out of the radio,lol! |

Could you please post some pictures of how you install that Philps Elomar radio in your split (especially regarding the bracket that you use)?
I have one as well, and I don't have a clue on how to mount it....

Apparently it's the same brackets and springs that hold the battery in car.
I will post pics when I do it.

What I did was take a small screwdriver at the back of radios and spread panels apart just enough for the battery brackets to hook into. At the back side of dash at radio opening the springs attach there. And it worked out perfect.

Yes the battery hold down springs are very strong and effective.
But get another person to help hold the radio while your pulling those springs 😆
