I found this unusual part numbered coil at a (VW) swap meet last year. I had not recalled seeing this number before, ZS / 0E 6/1, and the date code 402, which is February 1964.
So it fit in the range of VW production, it was just unfamiliar to me.
A friend came through with some original Bosch documentation show it to be for early Type 3 1500S, Type 3 Karmann Ghia 1500, and 7 months of 1500N Variant in 1965.
The number does not show up in my 1968 Bosch catalog, so the number, I presume, was superceded between 1965 and 1968.
No other VW application, and as far as I know, no other application for another manufacturer.
Has anyone else seen this coil, or have one on their car?

I have one. Been in my cache for many years, never looked at the bottom until recently. Date coded 401 January 1964. They are sorta invisible, the 10 numbers Bosch Part Number is not imprinted on them. |

I probably had one, but it went with the car when I sold it. Going off your charts, I'd say it's a 6 volt coil for dual carb engines (64-65), and it was available for 66 models (A=single carb or the old "N" models for 66 (another change over year)). Your charts are kind of hard to read, since they chop part of the pages off though. The 1500 club might be able to give you more info.
