Last year someone started a Facebook event. Anyone up for doing it again this year? My guess is that it was instrumental in getting the turnout we had last year. _________________ 1965 Pearl White Caravelle Camper

I think Aaron, camit34, did the FB post last year. Not sure how many ppl the post brought as I was contacted strictly through theSamba and Bubba was responsible for all the ppl/buses that came from GJ.

Who else is in? Just adjusted the my valves at the 500 miles mark, changed oil and my Bus is running great! I'm at Orvis right now and the Western Slope is lookin' good. I hope our tour takes to Blue Mesa and Gunnison. Now will my rear tires hold up?? The Road Claws are running a bit thin...... _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

Super dangerous dry here on the front range. There is talk of closing forest access roads due to fire danger. Any news on the Western Slope? I was just out at Orvis and they said water table is way down on the Western Slope. Any progress on the Durango fire? Hope everyone is OK. _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

Our trip to Spain is postponed till later in the year so I might be able to make this one.
Just finished a trip down to Alabama and Florida to visit friends and the Bus did awesome! Some small things needing correcting but all in all it did great on that 3300+ miles in 9 days... great fun!
***not related to this thread but it never stops anyone***
Love this shot I took in Troy AL. The little one had a blast on the trip too!

How cute!!!! I just took my Bus on a 200 mile trip in 100 degree heat. The gas wants to boil in the cheap Chinese Carb. but it made it. I did not hold up so well. The heat just drains me anymore. I'm gettin' old. _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

Yeah, the closure of the San Juan NF speaks to just how bad it is down here. I'd be surprised if the Rio Grande NF doesn't do the same soon. The Santa Fe NF just a bit south is also totally closed, as are parts of the Carson.
Here in Pagosa I'm around 60 miles away from the 416 fire, but can see the smoke plume almost as well as you can from downtown Durango. Its bad, and getting worse fast. Growing by multiple thousands of acres a day, and we're still close to a month away from the normal start of the monsoons. This is going to be a big one...
I hate to say it, but I'm considering rescheduling the trip for a later date, probably mid to late September. I doubt the FS is going to re-open the forest immediately once the monsoons do start. Its just too dry, and I imagine they'll let things get soaked a bit before allowing public access again. I could easily see a scenario where the forest wasn't open by the end of July. A lot of that is going to depend on the weather here in the near future. I know a date change will suck for a lot of folks who won't be able to do a trip during the school year, but we may not have much of a choice this year. I'll let you all know ASAP if the date is changing.
Think rain. |

What about adjusting the route or venue to get around the affected areas or areas that are closed? _________________ 1965 Pearl White Caravelle Camper

That would be another way. The question is "where is it safe". Its horrid dry in Fremont county with fire bans in place at various levels. _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

Agreed. That's an option if we can find a good, safe area. |

Already all kinds of fire bans and fears over 4th of July celebrations. I would consider my area too dry to consider a route, unless a miracle rain fall happens.
Any news from other parts of the state?? _________________ Fat chick owner/operator |

How about September 22-23 like we did back in 2012?
The Durango and Silverton 4th of July fireworks were both cancelled in May. Article I read this afternoon said the San Juan NF needs 5 of rain to be considered safe. _________________ __________
