I added a 12 outlet in my glovebox and use one of those USB plugs that go into that kind of socket.
I have the USB lead poke out of the upper gap around the closed glovebox which is almost directly next to the lip of the dash top. The cable is tucked under the lip all the way along the dash top where it pops out near the outer corner on the drivers side near the GPS attached to the windscreen. The Cable is largely out of sight and doesn’t want to fall out. It is also easy to remove because gap between the dash face and dashtop lip is just small enough.
You can get the socket and USB plug from Jaycar. I got one with three ports and displays the voltage and current.

I saw one where they wired it up under the rear seat and installed the USB jack in the kick panel, near the hump. |

Inside the ashtray.
The ashtray also can be used to make an anti-theft kill switch.

I put a combination USB/ AUX input in the glovebox.
Amazon. $30 for combination unit and $20 for 12v to 5v converter. |
