|

So i had a trans after 5yrs start to slip gears and get them confused. figured the clutches were bad. So i swapped with another i had laying around which now i find has no 2nd gear.. another story. so when pulling the 5yr trans vac line off gas came out of the hose. the pan fluid smelled normal, not gassey or burned. So i decided to swap out no 2nd gear trans with one i pulled from a car recently only to have gas in the vac line again. so before swapping out would like to know if this is a normal thing or something that needs correction prior to swap. Thanks for any POSITIVE replies _________________ I drive my VW or I walk

Pretty unusual to get gas there... usually the leak is the other direction and you get ATF in the line.
A stuck or leaky cold start jet could let gas settle in the intake air distributor (plenum), and then it might get sucked into that vacuum line. 99% of our cars don't need that cold start jet, so you might block it off and see if that stops the gas. Simply unplugging it won't work if the jet itself is stuck slightly open. |

Where does your vac line(s) connect? Is that carb(s) leaking after shutdown? |

Raw fuel should never be present in the vacuum line, in fact, ATF shouldn't be present either. If you do have fuel in the vacuum line, the carbs must be leaking after you shut the engine off. To help diagnose the problem, drive the car around, then pull it into your garage. Then immediately pull the vacuum hose off of the modulator, and see if anything comes out. _________________ 69 road Bug 2110
