yea lets face it, if they don't even bother to prepare the black wheel before painting it white, I can hardly believe in other cost cutting ways that they wouldn't do the same thing, skimp!!!! big time, I couldn't believe that mine starting peeling and was black underneath, the ivory paint was so thin I couldn't believe it, I really like a sturdy wheel, gotta have it it just makes driving more enjlyable, I guess I'm gonna have to lay out some dough oh well, it'll be worth it, I'll look for one that needs to be restored and get it done inexpensively, rather than pay top dollar for an original nice one or one thats been restored, |

Great info here. I was just about to order one for my DC and now I think I'll look for another alternative.
Thanks |

My 56 Single came with a Banjo when I bought it. It flexes but nowhere near what everyone else is claiming.
I was intrigued with what was said about flexing to the point where it almost touched the Type 2 dash so I tried it myself...Not even close.
I have 2 1/4" between the wheel and the speedo pod and I get maybe 1/2 to 3/4 of flex.
I guess I'm one of the lucky few with a sturdy Banjo.
I did the same flex test on my 60 Dbl with stock wheel and I got 1/2" of flex.

After I posted about the flex in mine, I got to looking at the spreader bars on the spokes. I was able to slide them inward toward the hub about 1/4" to 1/2" and it tightened up the spokes. The wheel doesn't seem to have as much flex in it now as it did before. Am I crazy? ...maybe. But it seems to have made a difference. |

I would like this steering wheel for my 72 Super, but not sure if it would fit right. Ive seen many pictures of it on early bugs but not 68+. I know from research on here, that a 71 wheel wont fit a 72 because the windshield wiper stalk interferes with the dished older wheel. The vendors all say that there is an adapter to fit 60-74 beetle. |
