Just finished up replacing a heater core on my 2000 Chevy Silverado started at 9 in the morning till 9 tonight finished up today at 4.It was a nightmare from start to end you have to rip the entire dash board out and since I had everything apart did the ac evaporator coil.Took less than an hour to change the two componets and a good bit of that was putting the foam tape on them. That said it's such a dream to open the hood on my bug and every thing is there within reach. |

... brave guy. I had Chevy do the heater-core in my S-10, a few years back for $600...
... Air cooled VWs are simpler in many ways - heat wise for sure. Of coarse the heat is almost non-existant, when below zero... but that's okay, I use my Chevy when I need to. _________________ 5/50, pastel green 11G - SOLD

Try a blower motor or Heater core on any mid 60's GM "A" body car with A/C. First start by removing the rt front fender! |

I can swap my VW fuel pump in 5 minutes for under $20. My Silverado they had to remove the bed!!! And I could have bought another Bug for what it cost. |

I think there are quite a few vehicles today where you have to remove the dash to replace the heater core. My 03 Dodge Ram and 06 Beetle are on that list. I remember how simple it was to replace the heater core on my 66 Mustang. Been many years but if I recall everything was done from the engine side of the firewall. |

I pull the dash on cars all the time.
I work for Hyundai/Kia in the Thermal Dept.
We test proto cars for heater and A/C performance. (currently 2020 models)
We get new HVAC cases that we update the cars with after the developers have made the smallest change .
our cars are pretty easy and I can have most in and out in about 5-6 hours now
It's very clean work with no rust or dirt. The cars never have more than 2-3K miles on them tops _________________ My Photobucket for my Herbie Project - http://s1288.photobucket.com/user/TK-439/library/Herbie?sort=3&page=1
