Hi my name is Sunny and I have a 1977 carbureted bus named Marley. I've had my bus for two years now and it has run and driven great so far, but now it won't turn over. I went outside yesterday and turned the key and it made a weird rubbing sound like it was trying to start and then it ran for like 5 seconds and then cut off and ever since then it hasn't started at all. All of the lights and the radio still work fine, but when I try to start the bus it does nothing. I can hear the fuel pump but the starter isn't trying to do anything. So I checked the connections from the battery to the starter and they are tight. The carburetor is also brand new by the way. I'm definitely no mechanic by any means and I have no clue where to start so any advice will greatly be appreciated! Thanks a lot guys! _________________ Yellow 1977 bus named Marley😊! |

There's a user on here, GoBigEmma, that can give you some info on turning a bus over. _________________ Robert in Memphis

Charge the battery or take it out and take it to an auto parts store and have it tested.

The five scenarios that lead people to Samba
Totally dead....dead battery or major electrical fault. Usually easy to get solved or at least moved to a new scenario
Lights work, no engine cranking.....weak battery, bad starter, bad ignition switch, wiring
Lights work, weak cranking, no start...weak battery, starter
Healthy cranking , no firing at all....isolate fuel and ignition problems with starter fluid. Aftermarket crap carb, ignition parts
Healthy cranking, occasional firing....fault in fuel delivery, bad ignition parts.
Plugs distributor cap rotor. Rarely bad gas on a runner.
Come to terms with your ass for it bears you. Unless you live in major metro area, the number of people who can work on your Bus is diminishing daily. Aftermarket mods like your carb make it even smaller
You need to own the Bentley and MUIR manuals to own these vehicles _________________ .ssS! |

rubbing not good. With the key off and out of gear please check to see if you can turn it over by hand and if there are rubbing noises then. A photo of the engine might help too. _________________ “Most people don’t know what they’re doing, and a lot of them are really good at it.” - George Carlin |

Possible that the engine is "hyrdro-locked" due to a bad float valve in the carb. Try removing the spark plugs.
If the oil is full of gas you need to fix that before you start it. Pull the dipstick and smell it. |
