jamar super shifter reverse lockout adjustment

I need help fine tuning the lockout feature on my jamar super shifter. It basicly is working but when trying to downshift into 2nd in a hurry I'm getting a slight gear grind. If I have time to just let the shifter handle float & pull it into 2nd it seems to shift without grinding. Any suggestions on how/where to start? This is in a Berien Venture sand rail.

Put shifter into second gear. Loosen adjuster on shift rod and rotate shift rod a touch clockwise when looking from the rear and lock back down. Test, repeat if needed. Go the other way if you make it worse the first time.
