Todays plan was to move the bus to another building and start getting my doors ready to paint... Got distracted by a wiper motor and then headlights and...
Anyway I managed to get enough good parts out of my pile to assemble two headlights and the wiper system. Blasted and painted all the metal headlight parts. They where quite rusty but not pitted.
Can't assemble anything until my order of seals and stuff arrives.
Maybe tomorrow I can get it moved
Also selected a carb and distributer to rebuild. A H30/31 and a 009. Not the best but will do this year. I have to research the fuel pump. Made in Brazil so may not be worth rebulding.

May have overdone it a bit last night so spent the day in front of the TV doing little stuff.
Polished some chrome and rebuilt the gages. Some of the chrome is quite ruff but polished up decent. If I find better parts I will change them later. Painted the gage trim rings. Changed the coloured lens and a new rubber ring in the speedo. The rubber ring seems a little to thick though.
I need to pick up some Paint remover for the headlight rings. Thought the paint would chip off but it's attached better than expected. The chrome looks good under the paint anyway.

I just read the first page of your thread. What a difference! The s bus has come a long way so far. Those photos of the bus in the car show with a bunch of people checking it out were great. If your town has the same mayor, I see another “Mayor’s Choice” award in your near future. Great work and massive accomplishment! |

X2. This bus found the right owner that’s for sure. Keep up the good work. Can’t wait to see it all done. _________________ GFK

Stan,
The paint looks great in the sun. The bus looks great by itself, but all of the attention you are paying to the little things are really going to make it stand out. I am enjoying these updates, and seeing the amazing transformation. |

Getting it out in the sun like that is telling no lies about how much prep you did. What a monster barn. What are the individual shingles made of? |

Fantastic. I have a dove blue 64 kombi as well. My paint is not like yours though. _________________ The United States Constitution

What colour paint should the light trim tabs have?

Most I've seen were zinc or cadmium plated. Will you disassemble the door handles' push buttons and locks? You can and then grease them. There's a little o-ring to keep water out on the push buttons too. Make sure you keep a key in the one you are taking apart if you pull the actual turning lock part out. |

I never had a key. |
Gotcha'. The thing is to at least put a key in even if it's the wrong one (correct VW series and profile even if it's blank) because it keeps the springs and pins from flying out. Can't exactly remember how it keeps them in so maybe a key isn't necessary but to only grab the cylinder and pull it out. Maybe someone else could pipe up. |
