Hi guys! I've been making progress on my 66 Square, all of the rust is gone, new floors in and cleaning up all the rest. I've got the $ to pull the trigger on the interior package, but I am absolutely overwhelmed with the variety of colors and interior options available thru Jbgs or perhaps ISPwest. The car came to me with black houndstooth vinyl on the rears and 12" of black velour down the middle of flat black vinyl around the edges up front. Is that front factory? I imagine not. The car is staying white so almost anything goes when it comes to interior colors.
Dad's car was dark blue with white interior, I'm not going to use white inside a white car but it would be cool to use some blue along the way.
An interior can make or break a white car. The fabrics, the checkered, the printed patterns, wow!! However I'm also a big fan of originality. Straight black vinyl has a very real appeal. I've googled type 3 interiors too many times. It is a clean palette and I don't know where to start! Tweed? German squareweave for $1200 ++?? Grey carpet, black vinyl, blue inserts? I can't decide! Door pockets?
Please, if you will, humor me and tell me what interior YOU would put in a white 1966 Squareback if you had $1200 to spend!
I'll reward you if I use your suggestion. TIA! |

That's easy. A '66, you say? Why, Pigalle, Teak or Azure! _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Depends on the use of the car... summer, I'd stay away from black vinyl unless you like getting burned and stuck to it.
I couldn't tell you what to use, as I went gray velour in my own cars. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Another vote for red, I know where one is at relatively close to you. _________________ 69 Fastback |

I think it depends on who you are trying to please. If it were me, like I did when I did my bus interior, I looked at a lot of pictures and chose the one I liked. I had to get in it and drive it, so that's what mattered.
There are so many combinations and NONE are really wrong. It's just a matter of taste and preference. Go with what YOU like.
Then post pics and we can critique your taste!!! Just kidding! _________________ SLOW RIDE........TAKE IT EASY!!!

TMI has a dark brown smooth vinyl that i think would look pretty clean in there, or you could do white interior and make it even harder to keep clean! |

Oh yea, you guys are right, the pigalle looks very cool. Unfortunately I have a NICE black dash and nobody makes teak (or red) dashes much less fabric anymore. Did someone hint of a pigalle interior near me for sale? |

Dejavu from your craigslist advert, this interior
Came out of a rusty 68 I parted out. I sold the interior very cheap a while back, I did not want the high backs. It was obviously black underneath then painted red, and rubbing off in wear spots.
My local best bud/VW guy says I should go blue vinyl with white piping. He's got me thinking.
Looking at the build charts If I understand it correctly my interior by build date would have been
L 87 (13) pearl white
51 teak repp.
79 pigalle*
up to Chassis No. 316 140 226 80 black*
from Chassis No. 316 140 227
I'm 366 292 456, So If we were to have a discussion on what would be correct (she's too far gone for that, but if I were an option it may sway the vote) for my build date it would be too late for pigalle, and either be teak repp upholstery or black vinyl. Would either of those interiors have a 12" stripe down the middle of them, and if so, what fabric?
I recently stumbled on to TMI's website and their Tan, Brown and Beige samples are not far off Teak. Oh man, too many choices!! Thanks for the help guys! |

Yeah Dan, I’ve got one:

red but not pigalle... although those are 66-67 armrests not 68 |
As I recall it was a 68, I did find it odd to have the high backs with the early arm rests, although I prefer the early arm rests, I put a set in my 69. _________________ 69 Fastback |

Hey Tram, where would one find the Azure material? I think it would look good in a white 66. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Hi guys
I'm new to the forum - but do own an original Teak fastback.
A barnfind, but in this case my own barn.. Well, outdoor for a couple of years.
I moved away from childhood county, and never got time to start restoration. Hasn't been driven since 1988.
