I have a 1967 and a 1964 vw beetle and together I have one car but I don't know which is the more desirable year. I have put a lot of work into the 1964 already but the body of the 1967 looks better.. the down side about the 1967 is I will have to cut out the heater channels and the front fire wall and replace those and I would have to put it on the chassis of the 1964 since I did the floors on that one already.
help Ideas???

Unless you are really into 67’s, I’d go with the 64. I personally prefer the earlier bugs. Also, you would wind up with a body-matches-pan, which is almost always strongly desired. Sounds like it will also reduce your time and money to stick with the 64.

I prefer the smaller side windows of the '64 and older. Unless the '67 was in much better shape, I'd go with the '64.

I would always keep a matching pan and body together if at all possible, in fact I generally wont buy a mismatched car unless its cheap and I get titles to both numbers. State of Pennsylvania will inspect any cars being titled coming from out of state, you must has verifiable VIN's in two locations.

67's are cool with the one year only stuff but the thick post cars will always be more desirable overall. If the 64 is a sunroof car its a one year only car as well, thick post and steel sunroof.

'64 was a transitional year, it might have the bigger windows.

First I ever heard this. Got a VIN produced before August 1964 with big windows?

... '64 is a transitional year, but IS the last year for smaller glass - larger glass (definitely) started with the 1965 models... Some guys love the 1967s... I too, just like the older VWs.
... never made any difference to me weather numbers matching - am more into function.

Without provenance, numbers matching isn’t worth much. Relevant for a ground up, NOS restoration, otherwise just a negotiation point

I vote for simplicity sake to keep pan and body numbers matching.

Not sure why the samba doesn't categorize the 67 as a later model bug. After all, it's 12 v and has the newer headlight style. Yes, it is a swing axle but so does a 68! To me it's a later model! Stick with the 64. I'm not a purist cuz both my bugs are frankensteins but I really like the earlier traditional bug look!

Most VW enthusiasts seem to categorize the 67 with earlier models, not just the Samba. Always been this way as far as I remember.

Bumpers and taillights are obvious from the outside, 12V isn't. On the inside, no plastic dash. Euro '67s still had the glass-covered headlights, too. So it's "the last of the earlies" in my book.
