One of the wires either in the engine bay, or just at the back of the car is white with a green stripe. Anyone know what this wire is for? |

If it could be from VW wiring loom or some aftermarket wiring job, either kit or on site made.... Usually in a kit car or custom build it could be anything... Only builder can tell you...
Not aware of a white wire with green stripe on "standard" beetle wiring... You can search link below but I don't think it will help...

You are probably going to have to trace it to see where "other" end is connected (or not)...

There is a grey w/ green stripe wire in the standard late model Bugs for the diagnostic plug on the fire wall that goes to the coil negative side.
I went and looked at my 1973 Super Beetle that has the wire in the harness and then looked at the Bentley manual to see where it goes.
The wire is faded and looks almost white in color with the green stripe.
This could be the wire you are seeing.
If it is, it does not need to be connected to anything. _________________ Joseph

That could very well be it! It has a terminal at the end that would slip under a screw head. (Why can't I think of the proper name of that???) |

Ring terminals are round, stake on terminals are two prong. |

Two prong terminals are "spade" terminals...
When using spade terminals, try to get "snap spade" they tend to stay on stud or screw better...
