Hello -

I am looking to identify the type of exhaust and possible manufacturer from this type 4 engine.

As always, any help is appreciated.

Thanks,

Jeff

Its just a cheap EMPI or Thunderbird brand 4 into 1 header with a glass pack on it. You can also bolt on a single quiet pack muffler and it will be about 100% more quiet. And...you can buy a version of that header in stainless steel.

It actually is better flowing than a stock muffler....noisier too....and you may have to retune fuel a bit because it does flow better. Ray

Thanks Ray. Can I purchase just the bolt-on muffler or do I need to get the connecting pipes as well?

You can probably purchase just the muffler and tail pipe or you can head to your local Mom and Pops exhaust shop and have them build you what you need in a half hour.

Yes to what both Steve and Wildthings said.

In fact I would go to a mom and pop muffler shop first.
Depending in who actually made that header....the three bolt flange can be clocked in any of several directions....and buying a muffler on line may get you one that does not fit underneath the bus if it comes with a flange welded on. Ray

been there done that on a 1971. Flange was clocked different on the replacement (turned out it was clocked for a bug).

Just to clarify, the term 'clocked' refers to the angle/orientation of the flange on the muffler so that it will fit correctly on the existing exhaust.
