Rear Shock Mounting Bolt Missing

1971 Westfalia, 1600 DP AE engine. Got the shock of my life (no pun intended) when I rolled underneath to do a general check out and noticed that the left rear upper shock mounting bolt was missing. No idea how long it had been gone. Thankfully no damage other than slight denting where shock had been bouncing against the frame.

Bentley Manual calls it an M12 Bolt. I am coming up empty-handed trying to find it. My local VW place could not find it through their system; says it has been discontinued. I could only find it at JBUGs online and even then they only had one in stock, so I hope it shows.

Is there a generic bolt from Home Depot, etc that will substitute?
