I think my lock tumblers are wearing out. They need a constant jiggle to open. The ignition is ok. What's the first steps I should do to troubleshoot?

They often just need a bit of lubricant to work well again.

Agreed. If you haven’t lubricated the locks in a while / ever, you’ll be shocked at how much smoother and easier they will move. You can get graphite lock lube for a couple bucks. Work it in by moving the key in and out a bunch of times and turning the lock back and forth too. It will usually make the locks good as new.

If you love working on stuff, remove the door handle (one screw), remove the lock cylinder from the handle (roll pin to punch out), remove the tumbler wafers and small springs and clean everything up real good. Often the grease has dried up and hardened. More likely your key has worn out, not the tumblers.

I feel confused by your post. Did you read the posts others have written and watched the GoWesty video? Graphite.

I don't think that the video mentions that there should be a little seal around the outside of the lock cylinder at the chrome bit where the key goes it.

It's 34 years old. Remove handle, watch free videos on how to disassemble and clean, replace/repair worn parts, and reassemble. Install door handle.

Have a beer while posting thank you's on the internet. Done in less than an hour.
