Hello Forum,
I've been perusing the forum for info on the fuel pump on my '69 Beetle (with a B-case 1970 engine) in order to do a rebuild on it.
What I have determined (I believe), via the Forum/Tech section, is that the pump is a model PE 15064 - a "round top." There are no markings on the sides of the pump whatsoever.
I've got the bottom portion of the pump "figured out." ie horz. rod, eclips, new diaphragm assy./spring, 14 mm push rod length @ TDC, etc.
It's the upper portion of the pump that I'm not finding any rebuild info -via this forum or YouTube - for this particular model.
Can anyone tell me what "vintage" this pump is? Is it a Pierburg model? I've a W/West 111 198 555 rebuild kit. Are the two "features" shown on the underside of the top replaceable - i.e. items shown in the picture?
Thank You for any assistance you can provide me!

Even after VW stopped putting that style pump on USA sedans starting with model year 1966, it continued for Type 2 as well as production for other countries beyond that.
For what it's worth, I own a new "old-stock" vintage VW repair kit for that style pump, which I have images of here.
Now, your photos of that WW kit has more in it than this pump needs, is that for the "square top" style pump for USA 1966`- 1970? _________________ Andy T.

I do not know how to fix this. All I can say is it all works fine for me with what I use, Firefox.

This pump is an Airtek pump that many FLAPS sell. It's a poor quality pump that usually puts out too much fuel pressure and the inlet/outlet tubes fall out of it.
A 1969/70 bug would have had a Pierburg Squaretop fuel pump installed like this.

Those crummy AirTex pumps (the OP is showing model #1071) can be made to work nicely by installing a decent diaphragm
assembly (from a NOS rebuild kit, or one recently available from Wolfsburg West), and replacing the top gasket and filter
with kit #616.108.904.100 available from http://www.type356a.com/services.html . Oh, and also replacing the operating lever
shaft with a stock part that takes the two E-clips.
This assumes the inlet/outlet check valves are OK. I'm unaware of any source for repair parts on those. Its conceivable that
the outlet valve parts from the WW kit the OP shows might work, but who knows. _________________ '67 bug: seized by the authorities

Like Kreem said. That's an Airtex 1071 pump. No need to rebuild it or search for parts for it. You can buy it brand new today for $36 bucks if that's what you want to run.

They are not recommended and the fuel pipes are known for coming out if you don't safety wire them or epoxy them. Then there's the issue of too much fuel pressure with them. Look for an original German Pierburg and rebuild it if you like those style of pumps. _________________ 1970 Beetle 1600 DP |

Thank you, thank you, Samba Members!
It's been an educational week with the fuel pump issue, but now I know what direction I need to go. I'm very grateful for everyone's input, indeed!
PS: This project - body off and many, many months in the making - has been an almost every day "education." It's' great though, as it is my first VW project, my first retirement project.
(GM back in the "old days.")
Thanks again! _________________ 1969 Type 1171 Sunroof Sedan |
