This is when forums are as best.
Just when you think you know everything, suddenly you get new information.
The whole life is a long lesson.

Now we only want to get a correct color code on this new gray color.

How many have now wrong black painted fueltanks?

I'll repeat the original question:

What is the correct tank color for an Azure blue May 1952 split window?

I have seen a split fuel tank painted over by well matted "Wehrmacht Schwarzgrau", and it looks very good. I don't know the RAL code.

I repainted 5 pre 55 fueltanks last week.
And to get the right colour i tok my very untuched fueltank from my oval march 1953 and vent to my friend that is carpainter.

He have the latest model of color camera, soo we cleaned one untuched spot under the fueltank.
And he get an match that was one of the best result he ever had with the camera.
Then he put the camera in his computer and after 30 second it found an match.
Here you see the different against the black color.
The fueltank colour is blue/grey.

My camera was broken a week before soo i have only few bad pictures.

When i brought the fueltank to him he immediately said that it is a RAL color.
But the problem with RAL colors, like all other colors, all manufacturers have shade differences.
And itīs different if you choose a water based or solution-based paint.
So you canīt just go on a color code or RAL color and think it will be exactly the same from different color manufacters.
He worked with Dupont or as the new brandname is Cromax.

Here is one repainted tank beside the original untuched tank.
Only half of the original tank is washed and polisched.

I have a new tank from CIP1 and picked up some RAL 7021. Maybe a touch light, will see how it looks when it's fully dried. I also dosed it with some flattening agent, so hopefully it won't dry so glossy.
