Quoting myself in another thread so that searchers that find this thread will have the info too. (Especially since I and others asked the question in this thread!)

We have ignition!
For anyone else who wants to bench test one, here's how I hooked it up to the battery:
12v to:
Female connector with two red wires going to it.
Female connector with a black wire and a blue/white wire.
Ground to:
Recirculation fan ring terminal
Safety switch brown wire ring terminal
Brown with white stripe from timer switch
Ring terminal near coil with a brown wire and a red wire attached
I do have some troubleshooting to do.
After it runs for a few minutes, it seems that the safety switch wants to trip. I'm need to figure out what is causing that.
Also the combustion fan is a little buzzy. I've got two others but was having a hard time getting one of them apart. So I may swap to just see if any of the others work without opening it up. Or run this one for a while and work on the other later. |

I refurbished my BA6 and run it stand along - like yours, a PO hacked and removed all of the stock heat components except the Eberspacher. After going through it I had to change around a bunch of the ducting to eliminate where it intersected with the old system. I also insulated the ducting going forward from the heater. It does work, but you will need to make darn sure you have enough air flow - install a booster fan - otherwise it will overheat. |
I'm thinking of refurbing my BA6 in my 77 Westy and running it as a stand alone without the stock heat components to the rear - ie: heater boxes etc.
Does anyone have some visual aids / photos as to the set up required to make this mod? _________________ 1977 Westfalia - October 2015 - Current

Yes, that's how it works when the engine isn't running (and all the non return flaps are functional). _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

I believe the pic is actually from a Vanagon setup
That picture is missing (i believe) the bay window's under bench air intake for the heater, so you are taking in cabin air and heating that instead of always pulling in outside cold air to work with. |

Looks like bay to me, Vanagon doesn't have the air going to the heat exchangers via the lower shroud ports. The cabin air intake is a hollow black arrow and a funnel at the intake of the fan between the words "flap housing" and "bowden cable". _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.
