I try to pick up clues from these old pics. The '59 Ford wagon and the Beetle in the first pic would have me believe that the date of the pic is likely not later than 1965. Plenty of '59 Fords were off the roads after 1965; by 1969 even in SoCal where rust is less a factor they were rare. I'm not that good at placing a Beetle YOM but I think I can safely say that that one is no later than 1965. It has a shiny new look to it. Also, that style of Maryland plate dates its issuance to 1964 - '65. I'm guessing the season is late Fall. Notice the mother is holding a cigarette in her right hand. |

Fish, did you know the guy with the black hair is Hawaiian born surfing legend David Nuuhiwa? He will turn 70 later this month and lives in Huntington Beach. (Another Orange County guy  ) The first pic was posted on TheSamba some years ago but the other two I don't remember having seen before. I can only assume the third pic is him also. That pic looks like it would be located not far from the coast somewhere south of San Francisco. What he would be doing on stage at some concert I have no idea. I didn't find any info about him being a musician. |

| I was right about the location being south of San Francisco -- way south. I am embarrassed to say that I drove Laguna Canyon Road its entire length last year and I had no idea the photo was of those hills. |

The small side windows and vertical rear edge of the vent window tell me the bug is no newer than 1964 MY.
