Different journal size, different piston pin size, different length.
The type 1 has a 69mm stroke....type 4 has 66mm or 71mm. Its not what different between the two rods.....its that nothing is the same.

And to be clear.....the journal size difference I was speaking of is with the 1.7/1.8 rod compared to a 1600 type 1 rod. While the main journal diameter is the same....the type 4 rod width is about 3mm wider. Ray |

Could you by mistake install a type 1 rod in a type 4 engine?
That is my concern.
Is in a friends engine. The bought Carrillo style rods but I see too much lateral play. That is my doubt.
Thanks for answering. |

It has happened before if memory serves. The journal of the 1600 rod is the same diameter as the 1.7/1.8L type 4 rod......but the type 4 rod is a LARGE amount wider. Something like 3mm going off memory. Also.....again going off memory....the type 1 rod has a significantly different length. The 1600 is a 69mm stroke and the 1.7l/1.8l.....is a 66mm stroke.
So if you have the wrong rod....it should also be giving you problems with the piston deck height being in the negative numbers....like the piston sticking out of the bore.
