'72, 1700cc. So, I have a leaking fan hub seal. It looks like a job I should be able to do, but when I look at Bentley, it calls for special tools to take the hub plate off and to put the seal back in. Is it really that difficult? Maybe I'm missing something? Thanks.

it can be done without the special tools but first be sure that your breather isn't plugged.

Also check the oil pressure switch for leaks.

Sure, the MM always call out for special tools. This job doesn’t require any. Many different things can be substituted. Reminds me of working on my 1991 Toyota truck years ago. There’s an electrical box Located in the engine compartment and they wanted you to use a Toyota special shop tool to jumper two contacts in order to read the flashes on the check engine light. A paper clip worked just fine.

A harmonic balancer puller works just fine for pulling the fan hub. Just thread the center bolt in a bit (but not even close to being tight) for something to push against.
