Ok. I'm looking at my door contact switch with contact for buzzer. I'm looking at the diagram and at where my wires are. If the button on the diagram is oriented correctly, then my wires are wrong (done my PO and explains why my buzzer and interior lights didn't work)
Here is the question. Where should each of these wires go or what do the internals of this switch act? Here is the diagram I'm working off of. (F3 is the object in question) http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/info/wiring/baybus_70_wiring.jpg
And here is what I have.

Well, you can run a simple continuity test with a volt meter to find out whether the switch opens/closes on opposite left/right sides, or back/front sides of the switch.
Brownish-grayish wire: To ground. Goes through T1 insulated connector behind instrument cluster as seen in diagram, then goes to the steering wheel.
Gray/Black Striped Wire: Goes to the buzzer relay, if you still have one.
Brown/White Striped Wire: One wire goes to the dome light, one wire goes across the the other door switch.
White: I'm not entirely sure actually. Where does it lead to currently? |

You're holding F2 in your hand. The wires look correct to me. They are all ground wires and when the switch closes (door open) they are all grounded to the frame through the switch and screw.
Gray/Black goes to buzzer relay #85
Brown/White wires go to right door switch and interior lights
Brown wire goes to ignition switch
White wire goes to ???
Clean the contacts on the switch and try touching the unpainted metal part that you're holding in your hand to a good unpainted ground. _________________ Cream Puff

My wires in my 70 didn't match the diagram, but things are working.
Here is where my wires are going:
1) Brown/white dual wire one goes to interior light and passenger door jam.
2) Brown is ground
3) Black/white is going to ignition
4) White is going to the buzzer _________________ 1970 Westfalia Campmobile - SF Bay Area

So really front and back and side to side orientation doesn't matter then. I just have to make sure that any of the wires go to any one of the specified locations on the diagram. Perfect! Thanks! _________________ Brutis Patches Izabich: 1970 VW Transporter - 1776cc DP

The brown wire with the blue connector has been added by a PO.
That wire should go to a ground lug on the body located to the left of the fuse box.
The other wires are ok where they are. Note there is two sides to the switch. One side is for the door buzzer and the oher side is for the light.

Okay, so I know this is an old thread but I stumbled across it while searching for something else. It enlightened me enough to go take a closer look at my dome lights, dash light switch, door switches and wiring. One hour later the front dome light now comes on when either door is open (and turns off when the doors are closed) and the rear dome light turns on and off with the dash switch. Woo Hoo! I’ve had the bus for five years now and it’s still a thrill to fix something even that small.

Been hunting for the correct thread, but can't find it at the moment. Is it correct that Late Bays don't have a door contact/buzzer switch on the passenger side? _________________ 1979 Microbus |

No bays have the buzzer contact on the right door, only a single pole switch for the dome light, very early buses (68/69) didn't have any switches at all on either side. _________________ Rust NEVER sleeps and stock never goes out of style.

I forget what year it changed...but yes. door switch on drivers side did the cab light, and door switch on slider door did cargo light. neither were controlled by any dash switch as it was omitted _________________

The dome light switches can also vary by country. My Irish RHD double cab, although 1978, had a dome light switch only for the driver's door. But now it is rewired to have switches on all four doors. Yes! It's now a 4-door double cab.
[I really need to do a build thread on that truck. I've got over 6 years of work and over 2000 photographs to catch up on.] _________________ John
