Will be adding a set of vintage style fog lamps.
H3 55W bulbs.
Want to have a light on dash that lets me know when they are on.
Will also be using them as daytime running lights..
After checking speedometer found on the left side near 25mph there is a light that appears to be for parking or fog lights.
On back of speedo, there is a blank in this spot.
So a new bulb holder and bulb and I will have my fog light indicator on the speedo! Cool
Lights are on their way and should be here tomorrow. Smile

H3 55W fog lights
H4 Head lights

Deciding on placement and spacing
Tough with bumper guards since they are basically right where I would like to have the lights Confused
So accommodations must be made Surprised
Probably will be picture 3.
They unfortunately need to be at the height of the bumper guards so as not to block light from the side.
Or I could mount them under the bumper, but I prefer the vintage rallye look. Wink
I have made a prototype mounting bracket out of scrap...
Two matching brackets will be made and then painted black to help hide them when done.

Looks fantastic, Doc!

Did you use a dedicated switch or do the fog/DRL lights always come on with the ignition?

Regards,
Kris

Thanks Kris

Separate switch wired thru the ignition, so even if I leave them on they will go off with ignition.
Also wired thru speedometer warning light for parking lights

Kris,
I had a ‘71 Sunroof Super Beetle brand new back in the day, in Marina Blue!
Bought in San Jose at Almaden VW.
Dealership was owned by NorCal distributor of VWs
Reynold C. Johnson.
I worked for the dealership while in High School and college Very Happy

Well that was even more fun Crying or Very sad

Drive to office today...come out after work and car won’t start....cranks fine but no fire...unless accelerator floored and then sputters and quits.

Fuel leaking from carb....stuck float?

Well....take top off carb in parking lot with it raining Sad

Float is sunk...completely full of fuel...
Damn cheap Chinese carb rebuild kit....
Took float out, got the gas out of it, reassemble and drive home.
Will put old German float back in tomorrow and seal up cheap float and keep as emergency spare only....
Lesson learned the semi hard way Very Happy

Where can you get good quality carb rebuild kits?

Sucks about the float but glad you got it figured out quickly.
Unfortunately the quality of aftermarket parts for our cars is rather horrid so try to keep as many OEM parts as possible. If you do replace anything, keep the old one if it's still good. Always good to have a backup.

I have a small bin full of parts I keep in the car:
New (cheapo) distributor
Plugs
Wires
Cap
Points
Fuel pump

I guess I need to add a carb kit/float to it Wink
I also keep a full set of tools just in case.

I like the fog lights Cool
Here's mine. You can see my one MINI Cooper fog lamp on the left side of the front bumper.
