I’m restoring my VW Thing, from ground up. A complete frame off restoration. The body is almost completely painted. Next is the wiring.
My question: given the fact that the old wiring is completely out, and I have a new wiring harness and diagram from the Thing Shop, how long (in hours) should I budget to complete the wiring? |

I just did my 73 with all new harnesses from the Thing shop. I kind of did it in sections over 3cdays, so here is my recollection on time but mine includes removing the old harnesses and assumes that you have all the lights, switches, gauges etc in place.
Front harness took about 3 hours
Brake, wiper, and instrument harness including fuse box about 4-5 hours
Main harness was about 5-6 hours but note that the Thing Shop harness is for a 74 and there are some differences, so I had to add some additional wiring for the heater and some lighting that was different in my 73.
Good luck! |

I will concur with Dougster. Having never done a complete wiring on a car, it took my brother and myself 3 days. Make surre you enlarge that diagram so it's easier to read! _________________ 1973 Super Beetle - sold
