Sure, on the DIY Electric Car forum Smile

Tesla Powered Nissan r32 skyline

This is one of several cars that are using the open source controllers. It's extraordinary to think that the R32 is using the 'standard' Tesla motor... if we fitted a 'performance' Tesla motor it would have ~50% more power in the same physical package Shocked

Finally found some time to fit the CSF Drag Race Radiators. Next step is to add another panel to seal up the cooling air chamber Cool

The open source inverter controller tuning continues in preparation for a track day with Damien Maguire's BMW next week (here).

Yesterday we pushed the 'standard' version of the Large Tesla motor to 300kW traction and 125kW regen which is 110% of the power delivered in a Tesla Model S Cool

My bet that we can hit 800HP in the 'performance' version of the Large Tesla motor is looking good Very Happy

How will that effect the longevity of the motor and batteries?

Tesla claim the motor will last 1,000,000 miles and we have cars that have driven more than 300,000 miles (here).

Obviously pushing the motors and batteries beyond the Tesla design limits will have an impact. Today nobody knows what the limits are because the Tesla system is locked down. With the open source controllers we finally have a chance to experiment which is critical if we are to use these components in motor sport applications Cool

Getting back to work on the bus and next we'll be installing a rear caliper with integrated electric parking brake 😎

For anyone who's interested, I understand this will be a future build option for the Red 9 IRS system Very Happy

any thoughts on incorporating regenerative braking?

Yeh, we're able to lock the wheels up with regenerative braking and that allows one pedal driving if you wish (all this is completely programmable).

This video gives you some idea of the instantaneous torque we have at our disposal Laughing

We've decided to rework the cooling system so that we can fit the larger SPAL fans. We will also add a bleed point to the top of the radiators to help with air removal Cool

Started work on integrating the Open Vehicles Monitoring System (here) that will give us remote monitoring and control of the bus from a smartphone Cool

We're about to start testing the Tesla motor mount from Zero EV (here). This will provide a bolt on upgrade for any bus that uses the Red 9 IRS Very Happy

Note in the background you can see the calipers with electric parking brake Cool

Thanks for sharing!

This is just a thing of beauty. I can't image all the engineering that goes into this.

Any update recently?

Apologies for the delayed response... I've recently moved house and been in Romania working on an electric car for a new rally series (see photo) Cool

We've prototyped the rack that supports the battery modules and I should have some photo's from that next week. We've also resolved some issues in the open source motor controller and battery management system. I still hope to have the bus on the road this year ready for some long trips across mainland Europe next year Very Happy

Nice video showing the small drive unit peaking at 190kW (~258HP) and large drive unit at 341kW (~463HP) Cool

Some progress with the displays... we now have some LCD's that fit inside numerous standard instrument clusters and allow us to display electric car data while emulating the look of classic vehicles... here for example are a FIAT 500 and VW Beetle (iirc) design Cool
