Left side A pillar in.
This one took some persuading because the A pillar was twisted from the previous wreck, but I got it back in line.

Fitting nicely.
Once I get this where I want it I'll mark and then locate the lower nose panel first.

This might be obvious to you but it was totally a duh moment for me BUT: did you make sure your lower hammered lip area of your nose panel interfaces with the lip on your outer valence and also your butt weld seam before you welded it on? I got lucky on mine and it was stupidly close but I had that sinking feeling at one point after the out valence was on where I went hmmmmmmmm and started getting clammy!

Very Happy Yep...I pre-fitted the nose and marked the lip location on the A pillars so I had reference points. I also have been using a plumb bob for dead center.

Haha nice! I'm still thinking about how lucky I got on that one lol. It just never crossed my mind when I was doing my lower nose work!

Started fitting the left dogleg next.
Setting door gaps first...had to heat and tweak the lower hinge a little.
Got it to pull in pretty straight

On to the right side...this one will take much more repair. This section appears to have some old wreck damage that is wrinkled and ugly, plus some blobs of brass all along the outer edge where someone brazed it.

I put a WTB on the classifieds and was fortunate enough to locate a really clean section from a Samba member.

Trying to shake off the winter blahs as well as recovering from rotator cuff surgery. I dug through photos of this build that haven't been posted online yet and realized I forgot to bring everyone up to the current level of progress.

Larry's truck was missing the correct 2 year only humpback seat which proved to be scarce as hens teeth to find as well as needing a king's ransom to obtain.

His truck did however come with a mismatch of a seat bottom from the rear of a double cab and a seat back from a pre 1961 bus. We're going to make these work. First we found a set of pre '61 seat back rests and I fitted them. Next I'll make some supports for the seat bottom.

Finished the repaired wheel houses and floors ready for paint.

Also, Larry wants to keep this truck looking fairly stock but wanted a modern stereo to crank up his favorite German Polkas. He bought a RetroSound stereo that looks like a stock VW radio but has modern innerts. We also devised a plan to hide the speakers behind/underneath the seat.
Larry made this stealthy speaker mount that slides under the double cab seat bottom since it is straight across like a barn door seat and doesn't drop down to follow the contours of the 1962 floor.

This post and approach saved me a load of headache, grief, frustration, and time. Don't know why I didn't think about this before, but I fortunately came across this post recently, while avoiding the treasure chest hinge mount repairs on my own single cab haha.

After decades, the original treasure chest door can be mounted to the body instead of sitting in the storage compartment haha!
Thanks!
