Incidentally, I once witnessed a stuck starter on a Cessna 172. The starter solenoid actually stuck/welded shut, there was no safe way to get access to anything that could shut it off (wasn't going to open the cowl with the propeller spinning). I'd estimate it ran for somewhere between a minute and two. The thing which eventually failed and shut everything down was actually the lead post on the battery, which melted.
