I'm picking up a 1776 turbo'ed engine for my 72 convertible this weekend. I've seen several pics of turbos in Ghias, but can't tell if it's possible to fit it all under the deck lid.

Any one have any pics?

If you go to the Gallery tab here on The Samba and search the Ghia Coupe category for "turbo", this is the list of results that will be returned.

If none of those pics help answer your questions, then perhaps you can try performing the same search in the Ghia - Cabriolet gallery category.

A turbo in the engine compartment is a great idea, you can use all of the incoming air to keep the turbo from getting too hot.

It seems almost every turbo system I have seen...they are all built different. Without seeing or knowing what it looks like...no one knows.

You better put an electric radiator fan assy. under the deck lid to force a lot of cool air in there as that Turbo will heat the cooling air to the motor and really cook the motor and kill it quick. The exhaust housing on the turbo runs at 1200 deg.s F.

If heat becomes an issue, just drill some 1 1/2” holes in the front sheetmetal that fits over the flywheel area, btdt with a bug. Cool air is forced in from under the car and out the decklid vents, unless ur idling, but ur not on boost idling
