I recent found some NOS oil bath to dry filter air cleaner conversion kits for VW Beetles from 1968 to 1973. These were made in Australia and available up until 2007.
The whole top of the aircleaner is replaced by this filter paper unit.
Has anybody used one of these kits.

I’ve never seen one of those, but as long as it seals well at the bottom of the filter, it should do a good job.

I'm from Sydney and I have previously reported in one of the posts that my Dad's 68 which I am restoring (and I know it from new) had the original oil bath top removed and replaced by that exact Ryco filter BY THE DEALER at service in 1969. They didn't ask or explain, it was just changed at the regular service. The car spent most of its life with paper air filters without any issues.
I've been looking for an oil bath "top" for some time, but have drawn a blank. The paper elements are no longer available, otherwise I would have bought one. If you don't want it, I'd be interested. Or in the oil bath top if you want to change to the paper element.

Neat. I'd like to find or modify something like that. Cool piece. I know it's blasphemy arpund these parts, but i don't like the oil bath filter that came on my bug. It''s too messy to clean for my liking. This would be nice to have- as it still lools pretty much stock. _________________ Daily driven....Slowly. |
