|

Advice please. I have an oil leak at the diff side cover on my 1976 Beetle ( South African" Volla" with swing axles ) Is it possible to lift the gearbox after removing the transaxle carrier bolts with a trolley jack ( very carefully ) to be able to loosen the axle tube retainer and move it away . All this with engine and box in the car. I want to loosen the side bearing cover and move it away a little so that I can squeeze some silicon in there to hopefully stop the leak. |

Yes. Completely able to been done like that. Just be mindful of contaminants entering the gearbox during. _________________ Jimbo

I replaced an axle shaft in my baja that way daan, worked just fine but first clean the outside of the gearbox thoroughly. I had the engine out the car which made life way easier. |
