Hi,
Brief intro. I am new to VWs but I am not new to air cooled rear engines as I have an '88 911
I stumbled upon this. I am looking for a bit of a project this upcoming winter. He says the engine is almost new as it was rebuilt and has maybe 500mi since then. The car was parked about 10 years ago where it was repainted and has been sitting it what seemed like a fairly dry garage. I read the few threads telling me what to look for and other than a trash interior there was no major flags. No major rust to be seen. Just what looks like surface rust. The only thing I know is missing is the windshield.
What am I getting into and what is a fair value? It's listed as a 67. I couldn't get to the engine as it was buried in all the other car parts.
Please let me know if this link works.
Thanks in advance!

that looks to be in fairly good shape. Depending how many parts they have to make it complete (given i live in Minnesota the land of rust) I would probably be comfortable paying $1500-2000 for it.
This of course varies wildly as everything in Minnesota classic car wise is WAY more expensive overall. |

Looks good for the year. Rusty floors may be a bit worse at the battery. $1500.00 to $2000.00 would be a fair offer. Bring a trailer, low ball the price & take it away for him.
Let us know how it works out. _________________ I think he meant "rare", as in "not well-done" |

Try to get into it and look and then look some more.
Check my gallery on my eight hundred dollar ten year parked Squareback. It ran, smoked bad. Currently in the process of going thru engine brakes replaced about half of the right side pan. The numbers will add up to make it a safe driving vehicle. Around here most people do not know what it is or never scene one. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.

Well, I put a deposit on it. I'll drag it home early next week. I think I will start a new thread about what will either be a good time or a disaster. |

awesome, now these pictures will stay even if imgr decides to do what photobucket did...
car looks clean. I'd bet you have a relatively easy going winter project. I see no red flags, and yes it does appear to be a 67. the vin should start with 367. type 3 windshields are still easy to get from most glass shops, seals and windshield trim (and more type 3 parts than anyone else) can be found at ispwest but some stuff can be had at CIP or concept1 which may be easier/cheaper for you.
looking forward to your new thread _________________ Stop dead photo links! Post your photos to The Samba Gallery! |

I have to agree with Erik, in that it looks like a good starter winter project.
Being that you're in Canada, CIP will probably be one of your suppliers, as shipping and customs won't kill you (compared to buying parts in the USA and shipping them north of the border).
For the most part it does look complete, which is a big bonus.
Have fun and enjoy your project. For some, the hunt for parts is the real fun. Others like myself, like learning the differences between the years, and the body styles. _________________ Bob 65 Notch S with Sunroof

Thanks for the replies. I'm really looking forward to getting it into my garage and taking a look at what I have.
This is going to be a lot of learning for me as it was pretty much an impulse buy. I took months and months learning about Porsches and then months of shopping before I bought one. For this it was less than 24hrs from the time I randomly stumbled across the add to me leaving a deposit.
Any good literature out there for learning about this car? I got a Bentley on the way.
As for parts shopping I have been looking at CIP but I'm still trying to understand what parts are applicable to my future car and what parts are only for a beetle. I'm surprised at the prices though. |

I have discovered the type 3 items are more then a type 1. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.

Looks like a decent start!
If you start a build thread you can ask questions about parts and there are plenty of people who will help you out.
This is a parts book that's uploaded to the site - you can save it to your computer to look up parts - it's mostly complete:
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/manuals/type3_parts_book/
The 67 has a decent amount of 'one year only' parts on it but they're not typically super hard to find if you're patient. It's got a lot of nice features. |

I am the owner of the Squareback
I do not remember giving permission for photos to be taken of my car and posted online. There are other vehicles in your photos I do not own... I am damn sure you do not have my father's or brother's permission to take pictures of their vehicles.
To the people suggesting he lowball me. I have a waiting list of people that want to buy the car for the full asking price... Some of them are members of this site... One of them contacted me this morning to tell me that this guy posted pictures of my car on the Samba without my permission.
I personally stripped this car and repainted it....There has never been a patch welded in this car and I did not find a pinhole in the body... There is no bondo in this car down low... It only had a couple door ding type dents... It is arrow straight.... The heater channels and rockers are like new.
Getting window rubbers, a dashpad, windshield is easy...There are several sources for these parts and they are not expensive.
There are NO squarebacks in Atlantic Canada for sale... None... The president of the Air cooled club for Nova Scotia called me the other night and we talked or 2 hours... There is only one squareback in the club... And it is a newer model... ( 1971 )... If you found a squareback out in California and wanted it shipped to Nova Scotia it would cost more than $1500 just in shipping.
I did a google search for squarebacks for sale in Canada and I could not find one in Atlantic Canada... There was one out west 3000 miles away... but it was something like 13,000 and it was not fully restored. ( plus it was newer )...
My asking price for the car is a gift... ($3000) |

I am the owner of the vehicle
Old Man is the person buying the vehicle....
He came to look at it last week and sent a deposit on it over the week-end... He is scheduled to pick up the car in the next week. |

I have been crystal clear
I pulled the ad off the internet the second he made a deposit and I told all of the people that have called since I have taken a deposit.
I do not think that old man knew I was a member on this site... Or that I would see him posting about the car I had listed for sale.
I did not advertise it on here because the car is in Canada... I decided to use a local online classified instead (Kijiji.ca ) |
